For small businesses, social media can be a very important part of their marketing plans. A recent study shows that for small businesses, social media represents 16% of their website traffic. If you are not using social media to market your business, then you are missing out on this opportunity. But how do you optimize your social media marketing? There are several ways to drive website traffic with social media.
6 ways your business can drive website traffic with social media
- Optimize Your Profiles for Clicks
- Share Blog Posts and Valuable Content Regularly
- Use Strong Calls-to-Action (CTAs)
- Engage With Your Audience
- Utilize Social Media Ads
- Leverage Analytics to Refine Strategy
Optimize Your Profiles for Clicks
The first thing you need to look at is to make sure you drive website traffic with social media is your social media profiles. Do you have your website link in your bio and other areas of your profile, ie, descriptions and pinned posts? Be sure to use a link to your website as often as you can. It doesn’t always have to be the link to the homepage and we will cover that here shortly.
Also make sure your profiles are consistent in your branding so visitors will know it’s your business. Some areas to look at are your Instagram bio, Facebook About section and your LinkedIn Company page.
Share Blog Posts and Valuable Content Regularly
When it comes to what to post, your website should be a wealth of information. Write blog posts for your website and then post these to your social media accounts. What do you write about? Write about information your customers are interested in. If you are a lawn care service, don’t write about home repair. Write about how to bring your dead lawn back to life.
How do you write a good blog post? Well, we covered that before. You can go to our earlier post about this.
Once you write the post, you can then create a post on your social media accounts and link back to it. Once you have done this, you are not finished. Take some of the key points out of the article and create smaller social posts and graphics and link back to your site. You can use sites like Canva to create your graphics, and it’s free. Always be sure to remember to link back to your site.
Use Strong Calls-to-Action to drive website traffic with social media
If you are promoting something for your business, be sure to use strong Calls to Action. In your links, use terms like Read More or Shop Now to encourage visitors to click through to your website. Be sure to include these in your captions, stories, and any buttons. Keep the terms action-oriented and benefit-focused to encourage action.
Engage With Your Audience
And don’t just post and forget it. If someone comments on your posts, be sure to reply back. Engagement helps drive the social media algorithms, so the more engagement, the more the platforms will show your posts. You can encourage engagement by asking questions and ask your visitors to share your posts. On Facebook and Instagram, you can use polls and other interactive content to get more engagement.
If someone sends you a DM, answer them. Again, all of this will drive the algorithm engines.
Utilize Social Media Ads
You can drive website traffic with social media with ads. The platforms have tools to help tailor your ads to your audience. If you are a brick-and-mortar store with a location in only one city, be sure to target that area and not the entire country. If you are in Lexington, Ky, why show someone in Knoxville, TN, your ad? Those people are more than likely not coming to your store, so why waste the money on ads in those areas?
Other tips include what we have covered already, strong calls to action, and be sure your message is clear. And be sure to include some graphics that are interesting. If they are not, then people will just scroll on past your ads.
Things to use ads for? Think offers that are only for a limited time, or a new product or service you are offering.
Leverage Analytics to Refine Strategy
Are your posts working? Be sure to check and see. The platforms have insight tools to show you what is working and what isn’t. You can also use tools like Google Analytics to track visitors to your website. This will break down your visitors to your website based on how they got there.
Social media post will show up as the appropriate platform. Once you know these metrics, be sure to make adjustments as you go. Do you see a time when a post performs better on Facebook than Instagram? Make changes so that new posts will use these times. Is one format working better than others? One phrase I heard one social media person use was “Repeat the best, forget the rest, and continue to test.
