The City of Lancaster, Kentucky, the county seat of Garrard County, recognized the need for a fresh, modern website. Over time, the city’s previous site had become outdated in both design and functionality. While it contained important information such as bill payments, meeting agendas, and community updates, the layout wasn’t easy to navigate—particularly on mobile devices. Even more challenging, city staff had limited ability to make updates or add new content, making it difficult to keep information accurate and timely.
To address these issues, Lancaster partnered with Jordan Web Solutions to completely rebuild its online presence. The goal was to create a clean, user-friendly website that reflects the city’s unique character while making essential resources easier to access. The new design features simplified navigation, improved mobile responsiveness, and a content management system that allows staff to easily manage updates—ensuring the city’s digital presence stays as vibrant and connected as the community itself.
After evaluating several options, WordPress was selected as the best platform for the city’s needs, paired with the Divi theme to ensure flexibility and responsiveness across all devices. The homepage now includes a dedicated section for a personal welcome from the Mayor, giving visitors an immediate sense of Lancaster’s hospitality. The design builds on the city’s existing branding and color palette, creating a cohesive and recognizable look throughout the site.
City of Lancaster requirements
One of the city’s top requests was a meeting calendar, so we implemented The Events Calendar plugin and integrated it with the Divi Events Calendar for a seamless, visually appealing experience. This calendar allows staff to add meeting agendas to upcoming events and post meeting minutes afterward, helping residents stay informed and engaged in local government.
The site also features a comprehensive Government page with photos of the Mayor, City Council members, and the City Attorney, making it easy for residents to see and connect with their local leaders. Each city department has its own dedicated page, with information provided directly from department heads.
For example, the Police Department page includes a message from the Police Chief and photos from the department, along with a custom contact form that routes inquiries directly to the appropriate team. Each department head’s photo is prominently displayed, helping to put faces to the names of those serving the community.
To make the site even more useful to visitors, links are included to local organizations such as the Garrard County Chamber of Commerce and Garrard County Schools, offering a broader look at all that Lancaster and the surrounding community have to offer. The entire site was also optimized for SEO and submitted to Google for indexing to ensure it can be easily discovered online.
