What are WordPress Pages

WordPress Page

So last week, we learned when to use Post in WordPress. So when do you want to use WordPress Pages? The information in pages are not generally time sensitive so when you use them will of course be different than Post. WordPress itself describes Pages as the following;

“Pages live outside of the normal blog chronology, and are often used to present timeless information about yourself or your site — information that is always relevant.”

But first some quick information.

Information about WordPress Pages

  1. Content is static information
  2. Since WordPress Pages are not date sensitive, you can reorder them in menu
  3. WordPress Pages are not included in RSS feeds like we talked about last week.
  4. WordPress Pages are not organized with Categories like Post are, but are hierarchical so you can organize them.

Static information

Pages are more static in nature. The information in Pages are typically pages like an About Us page or a Contact Us page. The information on these Pages won’t change a lot over time. Your homepage on your site will normally be a page. You can also create a Page that will display your post. Pages again will be static and you won’t need to change them that often.

Dates don’t matter

With Posts, they are always listed in order from most recent to older. With Pages, there is no date order so you can always put them in any order you need. So if you need to add a Page about something in your company, you can create the Page and put it in the menu structure however you want. And since they are not dependent on the date, they won’t list the date on them like Post will.

No RSS feeds

Last week we talked about how Post are included in the site’s RSS feeds. Since Pages are not date sensitive, they are not included in the RSS feed. They are also not included since you typically use Pages for static information.

Groups of Pages

Pages don’t use categories like Post do so you can’t create a list group of Pages like you can Post but they are hierarchical so you can group them together. You can create a parent Page and put related Pages under the parent. An example would be the about section for a business. You can create the main About Page but then have related Pages like hours and locations that would fall under the main Page in the menus.

There is a time to use Pages and a time to use Post and knowing the difference can make your WordPress website a lot stronger and a lot easier to use. • Darrell was ALWAYS available! He was so helpful in answering all my questions and ensuing I understood all the steps I needed to take to create the most professional and appealing website for my Firm. I really liked that, because of his experience and expertise, he was able to give me advise on what may or may not be the best/most appropriate information to add, pictures, etc. The level of professionalism and his knowledge of all things IT gives me assurance I can always reach out to him for any IT solution and you don't have to wait weeks for a response.

  • I was most impressed that Darrell was able to take the pages from my website and get them to a point where we could take the next step to refine the pages to my ideas. I was very happy with his response to my suggestions and requests on various components of the page; images, text, etc.

After updating my site, he took some time to show me how to do my own editing and use the tools he put into place. Kudos, Mr. Jordan!

  • Jordan Web Solutions does a fantastic job of not only illustrating content, but also making sure to use phrases and words that will get your site to pop up in search engines. Professional, knowledgable, and quick. I would recommend them to anyone.

  • Darrell listened to what I wanted and designed the web site accordingly. He worked with us making changes as the site developed. He also had good suggestions and provided the instruction I needed.

  • Darrell was extremely creative, he had a lot of ideas for my website, which was fantastic because I didn't really know what was possible, or what exactly I wanted. He filled in a lot of gaps! He was also extremely patient with me, since I am not as tech savvy as some. I would definitely work with him again!

  • Darrell Jordan has designed and maintained our church website for the past several years.  Darrell is creative, efficient, and very accommodating.  He has gone “above and beyond” to give us exactly what we’re looking for.  I recommend him highly!

  • I’ve worked with Darrell for nearly 7 years. He has hosted several of my business websites, and I have recommended him to several family members and friends. He is professional, and very accessible, which is important when you need help with a business website. Much better than working with a large, faceless corporation.

  • I want to thank you for the work you did building us a new website. We are very pleased. The site looks so good. We are proud to call it our’s. I appreciate how agreeable you were to work with. You didn’t make us feel dumb because we knew so little about what we were doing. Thanks for that. Our new website is going to serve us for years to come. Once again, thank you.
